This flat BioThane® dog collar – also known as a Centre Ring or Field Collar – features two straps joined with a central O-ring, giving the collar freedom to move and flex.

Originally designed for working and hunting dogs, the centre-ring style offers extra manoeuvrability and may help the collar ‘roll’ off if it’s ever caught on branches or obstacles during outdoor adventures.

Each collar is crafted with care in our NZ workshop – made with a focus on quality, comfort, and quiet, practical style. Pair it with the matching waterproof lead here.

Custom Fit – A minimalist two-strap design, made to your dog’s measurements for a comfortable, bespoke fit.

Waterproof & Easy to Clean – Genuine BioThane® gives you a collar that’s waterproof, odour-resistant, and effortless to wipe clean – perfect for the beach, the bush, and everyday wear.

Hand-Stamped Nameplate – Add a solid brass or stainless steel nameplate for clear, quiet identification. Each plate is hand-stamped and fixed with matching solid-brass rivets for durability.

Solid Hardware – Built with rust-proof metal hardware, including a secure buckle, centre O-ring, and D-ring for easy lead attachment.

Materials & Craftsmanship

BIOTHANE®
BioThane® is a premium brand of coated webbing, created by bonding a PVC or TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) coating to a polyester or nylon core. The result is a strong, durable, and waterproof material that’s lightweight, easy to clean, and resistant to chewing and scratching.

We only use genuine BioThane® because of its proven quality and reliability – unlike cheaper alternatives on the market, it maintains its strength, finish, and performance over time.

HARDWARE
Premium hardware, cast from solid brass, selected for maximum strength to ensure our products remain rust-free for life. All hardware is kept securely in place with strong solid brass rivets.

Solid brass is a natural metal so our "gold" hardware may arrive with a little tarnish, especially when travelling snugly against leather. This is completely normal and easily polished – a quick wipe brings back the shine. Over time, brass also develops a warm, natural patina that many owners love. If you prefer hardware that stays bright without patina, you may like to choose our silver option instead (nickel-plated brass or stainless steel).

CRAFTSMANSHIP
Our dog collars are custom made with quality craftsmanship and thoughtful design that prioritises your dog's comfort and safety.

Our nameplates are hand-stamped. Minor tooling marks or inconsistencies in the stamping enhance the unique charm and human element of your custom dog collar.

Is this suitable for your pet?

If your dog has a history of being extremely tough on collars, such as, excessive pulling behaviour, we recommend using a specialty collar when attached to a leash or tie-out and keeping this biothane dog collar for 'good'. While our collars are extremely sturdy, and will withstand forceful tugging, there are determined dogs out there for which any collar is no match!

Please see our Sizing Guide for recommended collar widths.

Strap Replacement Service

All of our collars and leads are handmade in our own workshop, which means we can repair, resize, or refresh them at any time. When you’re ready for a new look, we can replace the strap and reuse your existing hardware - giving your custom piece a new lease on life.

How To Measure Neck Size

Getting the size right means a better fit and a more comfortable collar for your dog. Here's how to measure your dog’s neck so we can make their collar just right — plus tips for growing puppies.

Dog Collar Measurement Guide - Kinfolk Leather Custom Dog Collars NZ

We strongly suggest providing an accurate measurement when placing your order. If you follow the instructions below, this will allow us to make a collar for your dog that will fit him/her well.

1. Using a soft tape measure, record the circumference of the neck at the point where a collar would naturally lie.

2. Pull the tape so that it is snug but not tight. Record the measurement.

3. Enter this measurement in the personalisation text box when prompted. This measurement will be the middle hole of the collar, we will add at least another two holes either side.

Puppies - If your dog is a puppy, please let us know and we will make an allowance for growth when sizing the holes for the collar. Please feel free to give us a range (up to 12cm, i.e. 24-36cm) so that we can make sure there are enough holes to suit your dog's growth. We can be very flexible with the number of holes provided in the collar.
