Care Instructions
Follow our instructions to care for your custom dog collar, leads or cat collar. With a little bit of TLC, your custom BioThane® or Genuine Leather Dog Collar, Dog Lead or Cat Collar will last many years.
Genuine Leather
We craft our custom dog collars, leads, and cat collars using premium Italian vegetable-tanned leather. This genuine leather is chosen for its exceptional strength and beauty. Over time, it softens and develops a unique, natural patina, while retaining its durability to withstand harsh conditions. Dyed with non-toxic water-based dyes, it ensures both safety and longevity.
Care Instructions:
Leather is a natural material and it can display natural marking and colour variations. With a bit of love and care, leather ages gracefully. Clean it regularly and recondition with leather dressing, and it will reward you with many years of service.
Avoid getting it saturated with water as this can cause the leather to become brittle and more likely to break. For dogs that love to swim, we recommend keeping a secondary, waterproof collar for water-based outings (see our BioThane® collection). If your leather dog collar does get wet, allow it to dry naturally and then recondition with a good quality leather dressing.
We recommend using our leather balm regularly.
Due to the nature of the product, please expect some wear and tear. Scuff marks, surface scratches and colour fading are completely normal - how quickly these changes occur depends entirely on your dog and its environment.
Waterproof BioThane®
BioThane® is a brand name for a type of coated webbing that is made by bonding a PVC or TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) coating to a polyester or nylon webbing. This creates a strong, durable, and waterproof material that is easy to clean, lightweight and resistant to scratching.
The approximate break strength for each width of BioThane® is:
1/2" (13mm): 225kg
3/4" (19mm): 340kg
1" (25mm): 450kg
Care Instructions:
BioThane® collars are easy to clean with just a damp cloth. Wipe down the collar regularly to remove any dirt or debris that may have accumulated.
If the BioThane® collar gets particularly dirty, you can wash it in warm, soapy water. Be sure to rinse it thoroughly and let it air dry before using it again.
Regularly inspect theBioThane® collar for any signs of wear and tear, such as cracks in the material. If you notice any damage, replace the collar as soon as possible to ensure your dog's safety.
Hardware
BUCKLES, RIVETS ETC
We use premium British saddlery hardware, cast from solid brass and rust-proof, sourced from trusted suppliers. Our hardware has been selected for maximum strength and to ensure our products remain rust-free for life. All hardware is kept securely in place with strong solid brass rivets.
NAMEPLATE
A solid brass or stainless steel nameplate, attached securely to the collar using solid brass rivets to match the colour of the nameplate.
Care Instructions:
BRASS
Brass will naturally dull and tarnish over time. You can leave it to develop a beautiful, natural patina or you can bring it back to a beautiful sheen by polishing with brass cleaner. If the hardware is exposed to salt water, rinse well in fresh water.
STAINLESS STEEL
An occasional clean with warm soapy water is all that stainless steel needs.
RIVETS
Check leather and hardware periodically for signs of weakness. If rivets need replacing, contact us.
