Give your collar a new lease on life

If your Kinfolk Leather collar has seen a few too many adventures, our Strap Replacement service is the perfect way to keep it going strong. You send us your existing collar, and we’ll rebuild it using the original hardware — refreshed, cleaned, and ready for more tail-wagging miles.

Here’s how it works:
You send us your dog’s collar with the worn strap still attached
We carefully remove the buckle, dee ring, and nameplate and give them a clean
A brand new strap is made to fit, matched to your original collar as closely as possible
We reassemble it all by hand and send it back your way — ready to wear again

Why choose a replacement strap?
Reuse your original hardware – it’s better for the planet and your wallet
Hold onto the look and feel you love, just with a refreshed strap
Enjoy a collar that feels new again, without losing the character of the original

Because we’re always looking to improve our designs, your new collar strap might include a few small updates or refinements since your last order — but rest assured, it’ll still be unmistakably Kinfolk.

WIDTH
The width will be determined by the hardware that you have ordered with a dog collar from us in the past. The length will be custom sized to fit your dog. Please make sure to give us an updated neck measurement for the best fit possible.

MATERIAL
If you have ordered a collar from us in the past, you can choose whatever replacement material and colour you like.

DESIGN CHANGES
We make improvements to our designs occasionally so it may be that your new collar is very slightly different to the old one.

Is this suitable for your pet?

If your dog has worn one of our collars in the past...yes!

Collar Width

Not sure what width collar your dog needs? Here’s a simple guide to help you choose the best fit for your dog — whether you’re after a soft puppy collar or something sturdy for a strong puller. We’ve included recommendations for both our leather and BioThane® ranges so you can pick a width that’s comfy, practical, and looks great too.

Leather Dog Collars:

As a general guide, we recommend that if your dog’s neck circumference is:

  • Less than 22cm (8.5”) or a puppy under 3 months old, choose a soft leather puppy collar.
  • 22 - 28cm (8.5 - 11”), choose a 1/2” leather collar.
  • 28 - 34cm (11 - 13”), choose a 3/4” leather collar.
  • 34 - 41cm (13 - 16”), choose a 1” leather collar.
  • 41 - 48cm (15 - 19”), choose a 1 1/4” leather collar.
  • 48cm (19”) and larger, choose a 1 1/2” leather collar.

BioThane Dog Collars:

The BioThane range comes in widths of 1/2”, 3/4”, and 1”. Because Biothane is stronger than leather, these widths are suitable for a wider range of neck sizes. When choosing a width, you can focus more on the look you prefer and the comfort of your dog, as the strength will be adequate regardless of the size.

  • 1/2” Biothane Collar: Suitable for necks up to 35cm (14”).
  • 3/4” Biothane Collar: Suitable for necks from 28cm (11") - 40cm (16").
  • 1” Biothane Collar: Suitable for necks from 35cm (14") and beyond. This width is highly recommended for most medium and large dog breeds.

General Tips:

  • Wider collars are stronger, so please consider this when selecting the width. For example, do not use a 1/2” collar for a medium-sized dog; choose at least a 3/4” collar or larger.
  • For medium-sized breeds and larger dogs, especially those that have a habit of pulling on the lead, we highly recommend choosing one of our D-End Dog Collars. These collars provide an additional layer of leather to pull against when attaching a lead to the dee ring, offering extra strength and durability to handle stronger pulling.

How To Measure

Getting the size right means a better fit and a more comfortable collar for your dog or cat. Here's how to measure your pet’s neck so we can make their collar just right — plus tips for growing puppies.

How to Measure For A Dog Collar

We strongly suggest providing an accurate measurement when placing your order. If you follow the instructions below, this will allow us to make a collar for your dog that will fit him/her well.

1. Using a soft tape measure, record the circumference of the neck at the point where a collar would naturally lie.

2. Pull the tape so that it is snug but not tight. Record the measurement.

3. Enter this measurement in the personalisation text box when prompted. This measurement will be the middle hole of the collar, we will add at least another two holes either side.

Puppies - If your dog is a puppy, please let us know and we will make an allowance for growth when sizing the holes for the collar. Please feel free to give us a range (up to 12cm, i.e. 24-36cm) so that we can make sure there are enough holes to suit your dog's growth. We can be very flexible with the number of holes provided in the collar.

How to Measure For A Cat Collar

1. Using a soft tape measure, record the circumference of the neck at the point where a collar would naturally lie.

2. Pull the tape so that it is snug but not tight. Record the measurement.

3. Enter this measurement in the personalisation text box when prompted.
