Would you like to add a nameplate?

A flat leather dog collar with dee ring placed in front of the roller buckle for added strength, custom made to ensure a great fit for your dog.

Designed for strong dogs that pull on the lead, or if your dog needs to be tied up. As the dee ring (the bit that attaches to the lead) is in front of the buckle it gives another layer of leather to strain against if your dog is pulling.

Handmade using Italian vegetable-tanned leather and rust-proof solid brass hardware.

There is no need for a separate dog tag, as we can attach an optional, hand-stamped nameplate securely to the leather using rivets - a 'silent' alternative to a jingly dog tag.

We round, smooth and seal the edges of the leather by hand for your dog's comfort, as well as position the buckle holes for a bespoke fit.

The leather has been paired with a brass buckle and loop to ensure the strap stays securely in place, along with a dee ring for attaching a leash.

Customisation Options

Leather - your choice of 11 colours in premium Italian veg-tan leather.

Hardware - your choice of either gold (solid brass) or silver (nickel-plated solid brass) hardware.

Nameplate - if you would like a nameplate added, your dog's details will be hand-stamped and clearly seen on the solid brass or stainless steel nameplate. The standard placement of the nameplate is directly opposite the buckle hardware, visible on the top of your dog's neck. However, if you would like a different placement just let us know - we can attach it wherever you like.

(Please note that the stainless steel nameplates are marine-grade and are a VERY hard metal - this means that the letter stamping has a lighter effect than the brass. This difference is shown in the product images.)

Is this suitable for your pet?

If your dog has a history of being extremely tough on collars, such as, excessive pulling behaviour, we recommend using a specialty collar when attached to a leash or tie-out and keeping this leather dog collar for 'good'. While our collars are extremely sturdy, and will withstand forceful tugging, there are determined dogs out there for which any collar is no match!

Remember: the wider the leather, the stronger the collar. Please see our Sizing Guide for recommended collar widths.

Materials

LEATHER
The vegetable-tanned leather has been selected for its strength and beauty - as it ages it will soften and develop a unique, natural patina, whilst remaining extremely strong to withstand harsh and demanding conditions. It has been dyed all the way through with non-toxic water dyes.

HARDWARE
Cast from solid brass, our hardware has been selected for maximum strength and to ensure our products remain rust-free for life. All hardware is kept securely in place with strong solid brass rivets.

NAMEPLATE
A solid brass or stainless steel nameplate, attached securely to the collar using solid brass rivets to match the colour of the nameplate.

*BEAUTIFUL FLAWS*
As our collars are entirely handmade by us, marks from the tooling process and minor inconsistencies in the stamping will occur. Neither will detract from the quality and beauty of the collar, in fact we think this adds to the charm of choosing a handmade, unique product rather than something that has been mass-produced.

Dimensions

COLLAR
The width of the leather ranges from 1/2" to 1.5" depending on your dog's size. The leather is 2.8-3mm thick.

NAMEPLATE
Small (for 1/2" wide collars) - 50 x 9.5mm - up to 2 lines of information in 2.5mm text
Large (for 3/4"+ wide collars) - 70 x 16mm - up to 3 lines of information in 3mm text

Sizing Guide

LENGTH
Using a soft tape measure, record the circumference of the neck at the point where a collar would naturally lie. Pull the tape so that it is snug but not tight. Enter this measurement in the 'Neck Measurement' box when selecting your custom options. This measurement will be the middle hole of the collar, we will add at least another two holes either side. If your dog is a puppy, please let us know and we will make an allowance for growth when sizing the holes for the collar.

Please feel free to give us a range (up to 12cm, i.e. 38-50cm) so that we can make sure there are enough holes to suit your dog's growth. We can be very flexible with the number of holes provided in the collar.

WIDTH
As a general guide we recommend that if your dog’s neck circumference is:
- less than 22cm (8.5") or puppy under 3 months old, choose our soft leather puppy collar
- 22 - 28cm (8.5 - 11”), choose 1/2” collar
- 26 - 30cm (10 - 12”), choose 3/4” collar
- 28 - 40cm (11 - 16”), choose 1” collar
- 38 - 50cm (15 - 20”), choose 1 1/4” collar
- 46cm (18") and larger, choose 1 1/2” collar
Wider collars are stronger so please keep this in mind when you are selecting the collar width (basically, don’t walk a medium sized dog on a 1/2” collar! Choose at least 3/4” and preferably 1” +).

Care Guide

With appropriate care, this leather collar should last your dog many years.

LEATHER
Leather is a natural material and it can display natural marking and colour variations. Over time, the leather will soften with the oils from your dog's coat, developing a natural patina. With a bit of love and care, leather ages gracefully! Give it the occasional clean and recondition with leather dressing (we make one!), and it will reward you with many years of service. Avoid getting it saturated with water as this can cause the leather to become brittle and more likely to break. For dogs that love to swim, we recommend keeping a secondary, waterproof collar for water-based outings (see our Biothane collection). If your leather dog collar does get wet, allow it to dry naturally and then recondition with a good quality leather dressing.

Due to the nature of the product, please expect some wear and tear. Scuff marks, surface scratches and colour fading are completely normal - how quickly these changes occur depends entirely on your dog and its environment.

HARDWARE
Brass will naturally dull and tarnish over time. You can leave it to develop a beautiful, natural patina or you can bring yours back to a beautiful sheen by polishing with brass cleaner. If the hardware is exposed to salt water, rinse well in fresh water.

As with any collar, check leather and hardware for signs of weakness. If rivets need replacing, contact us.
